Officials from the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina stated that they have provided $685,000 to 37 non-profit organizations led and/or served by blacks in the three-county area to support innovation, creativity and fostering increased resilience is in the black community.

Facebook chose the Coastal Community Foundation to provide this opportunity because it intends to promote racial equality in coastal South Carolina through scholarships, grants, advocacy and internal practices, officials said.

According to the foundation, the $1 million Facebook grant also supports four specific initiatives designed to provide more opportunities for black communities and their leaders:

  • The Coastal Community Foundation’s Lowland Solidarity Fund
  • Neighborhoods Energized to Win Fund of Coastal Community Foundation
  • Institutional support for Black-led nonprofits
